Morning Prayer: O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you as the day rises to meet the sun. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. - Common Prayer May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may live deep within our hearts. May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace. May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, hunger, and war, so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and turn their pain into joy. And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in this world, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done, to bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor. Amen. - A Franciscan Blessing

You’re a million miles You’re an endless road You’re a winding river You’re a waterfall In the darkest sky You’re the brightest star In the deepest waters You’re the ocean floor Oh, I can’t run I can’t run, I can’t hide away from You You’re the mountain high You’re the valley low In the deepest sunset You’re the afterglow In the darkest heart You’re the brilliant light In the coldest winter You’re a raging fire

We’re together in this Sure, we’ve got our own politics Sure, we’ve got our own religions But we’re still together in this We’re together in this Sure, we’ve got our own set of problems Yeah, we’ve got our own things we wanna change But we’re still together in this I’ll carry your weight, brother And you’ll carry mine We’ll leave the battle far behind Let love and peace become all that we need 'Cause we’re still together in this We’re together in this So put away your blood and your violence Rest in solitude and silence 'Cause we’re still together in this I’ll carry your weight, sister And you’ll carry mine We’ll leave the battle far behind Let love and peace become all that we need I’ll carry yours, you’ll carry mine We’ll leave the battle far behind

Midday Prayer: Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus : and deliver us from fear. Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen. - St Francis

We thought You wanted temples and blood above our doors We thought You wanted vengeance and all out holy wars We thought that You were distant, You were far away But You are here and You are love We thought we’d have to prove ourselves to ever feel Your love We thought that blood and sacrifice would somehow be enough We thought that You were angry God, You were far away But You are here and You are love Thank God, we don’t have to worry Thank God, we don’t have to pay All our wrongs are covered in Your glory Thank God, thank God We thought that life was hopeless and heaven was the end We thought Your love could only reach a fraction of our friends We thought we’d never make it God, we were far away But You are here and You are love God, help us love our neighbors, help us be a light Help us love our husbands and help us serve our wives Keep us far from evil, keep us far away 'Cause You are here and You are love

Evening Prayer: O gracious Light, pure brightness of the ever living Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the evening light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, your glory fills the whole world. in word or song… Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God all creatures here below.
Praise God above, ye heavenly hosts.
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing; God never changes. Patience obtains all things. He who possesses God lacks nothing: God alone suffices. -St Teresa of Avila

Prayer of Examen: The Daily Examen is a contemplative prayer led by memory. Rather than a prayer utilized to clear one’s conscience, the Examen is a prayer of consciousness. During an Examen, one reflects on the current day, focusing on memories from the events of the day as a way of recognizing God’s Presence. Often, the Examen awakens the practitioner to the Divine through routine or ordinary moments to illustrate the subtle and surprising ways God speaks. This prayer practice helps cultivate and refine discernment as well as an awareness of God’s presence. Traditionally there are five movements or steps in the Examen. The following steps outlined below are adapted from the technique outlined by Ignatius Loyola in the 16th century. 1. Acknowledge an awareness of the presence of God. 2. Review the day in a posture of gratitude. 3. Recognize a “Consolation”* and a “Desolation”* from the day. 4. Choose a “Desolation”* to pray into. 5. Look with hope for new tomorrow. *A consolation is an experience that causes you to feel fully alive, at peace, joyful, happy, comforted, whole, connected, your best self, etc. and could be understood as an experience in which you feel close God. *A desolation is an experience that causes you to feel drained of energy, frustrated, irritated, angry, sad, sorrowful, alone, isolated, unaccepted, fragmented, less than your best self, etc. and could be understood as an experience in which you feel far away from God. The tricky thing about desolation is that even though it is an uncomfortable and sometimes distressing experience and we may feel as if God is far away, God is still very near. So the gift is praying with the desolation, telling God about your experience and asking for God’s grace in the experience. (It is also good to give God thanks for the consolation experiences.) God shows up in desolations AND consolations. It’s just that it’s easier to “experience” God in consolations and we often move away from God in desolations.
